This is an octet in praise of Bala Mukunda, Lord Krishna, in his child form. It is believed when a deluge was engulfing the earth, Sage Markandeya prayed to Lord Vishnu, who then appeared as a baby lying on a leaf floating on water, accepted the sage in his mouth, and saved him. The grateful sage is said to have then composed Bala Mukundashtakam, singing the glory and compassion of the mighty, sweet-child Bala Mukunda. It is said that chanting this hymn with devotion can earn Krishna’s immensely beneficial blessings for the devotees.
