Ram Navami is a significant festival for Hindus, as it marks the advent of divine power on earth. It also commemorates the appearance of Vishnu’s seventh incarnation, Rama. On this day, elaborate rituals are performed to celebrate Rama’s birth. Rama was born to kill Ravana and restore Dharma in the world.

Rama’s Birth

King Dasharatha of Ayodhya had three wives but no children. He performed the Puthra Kameshti Yagna for a child. After the yajna, the king received from the sacred fire a bowl of divine Kheer, which he gave to all his wives. Subsequently, they gave birth to sons.

Rama was born on the 9th day of Chaitra month to Queen Kausalya. Rama killed the demon king Ravana and other Asuras to establish righteousness.

His birthday is celebrated every year with great fervor and joy as Ram Navami. The festival is a reminder that good always triumphs over evil.
