Phonemic Intelligence: A Unique Tool to Boost Intelligence:

Academic success is the Holy Grail for students and their parents. It is the foundation for a successful professional and personal life. Not surprisingly, parents spend fortunes to send their children to the best coaching institutes, which claim to help them ace school and college tests and competitive exams. But there is a very simple way to enhance your young one’s intelligence as well as improve his/her social behavior. This brain-based intelligence program is called “Phonemic Intelligence.”

When a student experiences problems in learning and social situations, the reasons can be located in his/her brain anatomy and physiology. Intelligence is not localized to one part of the brain, goes the PI theory. Besides, there are multiple intelligences, as Howard Gardner has pointed out in his 1983 book, Frames of Mind. In schools and colleges which follow the conventional model of teaching, the focus is more on learning science, languages, and maths. But there are other types of intelligence too. Take interpersonal intelligence, for instance. This is the ability to feel compassion and empathy, and it is a very essential to survive in society, without losing one’s humanity. Intrapersonal intelligence, on the other hand, is the ability to introspect and understand oneself. Scoring well in tests is just one measure of success. But there are other equally important parameters, like self-esteem, self-confidence, optimism, self-fulfillment, that define success.

How does PI help people?

PI is a unique tool or brain boosting program to enhance learning outcomes and inculcate desirable social behavior. It seeks to boost the brain’s function in all areas. Dr. Baskaran Pillai, the creator of this brain-based coaching or PI, says that it is the only practical discipline to increase the intelligence located in different parts of the brain. It activates the brain using soundwaves or phonemes. Dr. Pillai says that it can boost one’s natural intelligence along with the intelligence that comes from academic training. Both of these depend on how well the brain functions. Natural intelligence is found in people who succeed without the benefit of a formal education or college degrees. Through PI, the brain’s function can be tweaked and enhanced. When this happens, the student will have better concentration, more self-confidence, and less stress. They will be able to set proper goals and achieve them. This can result in better learning outcomes. In other words, a brain exposed to PI training will become super-efficient, like an engine firing on all cylinders.

Poverty has a negative impact on a child’s learning ability, as well as their emotional and mental health. Dr. Pillai claims that Phonemic Intelligence could help such children overcome this negative impact by changing the brain’s neurology, as certain sounds have been seen to have a positive impact on the brain. These sounds or phonemes were used as part of the Phonemic Intelligence methodology that was implemented in HoPE Learning Centers run by the Tripura Foundation that works with underprivileged children. “The children, hailing from poor families, showed positive results in the form of better, higher test scores, improved focus, cooperation, and overall well-being,” says Elaine Kueper, Global Director of Tripura Foundation.

PI: Easy to practice and produces quick results

The best part of Phonemic Intelligence or brain-based coaching is that it is easy to practice and needs just 7 minutes in a day. People all over the world have reported that they could see dramatic results in as little as two weeks. And the results were not confined to academic or professional performance. There were also remarkable changes in social behavior. PI has a significant impact on behavior, as it stimulates feelings like love, compassion, and empathy. Those who practice PI claimed that they felt more fulfilled and responsible. They also showed greater community participation. Other benefits of practicing PI include reduced levels of stress and anxiety and a sense of peace and optimism. The Indian Journal of Medical Science says that medical students at SRM University who practiced PI before their exams for a period of 6 weeks, got better scores, and also experienced less stress.
