Sacred text Mahabharata (Chapter 108 of the Shanti Parva) describes the personality of the Ganas, their strength and tumultuous energy, and how they defend and protect those dearest to Shiva, subjugate their enemies, and forge bonds.
They surround Shiva and serve as his army to aid in the fight against injustice, deceive or trick malefic entities, subdue haughty pride, arrogance, ego, jealousy and negative tendencies of humans, and also grant worldly pleasures, enjoyment, and comforts for those who surrender to them and Shiva
The characteristics of the Ganas can be divided into four main types- those who dance, make music, guardians, and warriors. Furthermore, the most popular and powerful forms are:
