Ganapati Atharvashirsha – Ultimate Ganesha Prayer
Ganapati Atharvashirsha, also known as Ganapati Upanishad, is the most effective and powerful prayer to Lord Ganesha. Classified as an Upanishad, Ganapati Atharvashirsha is a sacred Sanskrit text which glorifies Lord Ganesha as the Karta (creator), Dharta (sustainer) and Harta (destroyer) of the universe. The hymn adores him as the visible Tattvam (core principle), visible Atman (soul), Brahman (Bestower of Consciousness) and Eternal (Ultimate reality).
It is the ultimate text which honors Lord Ganesha and portrays Ganesha as the image of the primordial sound ‘Om’. Ganapati Atharvashirsha sings the praise of the visible form of Lord Ganesha and lists the benefits of invoking Ganesha by chanting the hymn or through fire ritual.
Significance of Ganesha Atharvashirsha
The sacred Ganesha Atharvashirsha, a part of Atharvana Veda, contains the Bija mantra (seed sound) of Lord Ganesha. The text which explains the power of the seed sound ‘GAM’ has been divided into three sections. The first section named ‘Shanti mantra’ brings peace and calms down the mind to connect with Lord Ganesha to submit your prayers. The second section comprises of 10 stanzas which sings the praise of Lord Ganesha for wish fulfillment. The last and the third section explains the benefits of reciting the hymn either as chanting or as a homa (Fire Lab).
