In Sanskrit the term ‘Ashwam’ means ‘horse’ and ‘Medha’ means ‘to offer’. In the Vedic tradition, the Ashwamedha mantras are one of the oldest and the greatest set of Vedic mantras. Ashwamedha Chant in Vedas: Unique Composition
Ashwamedha Yagna (Fire Lab) is attributed to Lord Vishnu and it is significant that it was performed by Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Rama. The sacred Ashwamedha mantras in the Vedic text have been divided into three sections. The first section explains the rules and regulations to be followed by the person before commencement of the ritual.
