Express Gratitude to the Guru
Receive Wealth, Intelligence, and Wellbeing with the Avahanti Fire Lab
Live Webcast: February 20th, 8:30 AM (IST)
The Avahanti Fire Lab (Homa) is a fire meditation explained in the Taittriya Upanishad. It is performed to receive all dimensions of wealth and the intelligence to create and sustain the wealth; the higher purpose of wealth creation being using it for the collective benefit. Avahanti means to hit, strike, or throw down. The purpose of this homa is to strike down ignorance; to hit unawareness; to annihilate obliviousness.
The focus of the homa is intelligence (medha), which is the prime wealth everyone should possess. All knowledge flows from one’s Guru, and therefore prayers for the wellbeing of the Guru are an extremely important part of the Avahanti Homa. The prayers enable us to become better disciples and imbibe the Guru’s ways.
The mantras are powerful to kindle cosmic intelligence. Chanting or merely listening with faith is sufficient to attract abundance; to inspire others to involve themselves and invest in our ideas, be they business related or any other materialistic pursuits or even spiritual seeking. The bottom line is that the idea should benefit not only oneself but should be focused towards the common benefit of all.
There are 4 main prayers offered during the ritual
1. Medha (knowledge)
The mantras not only seek knowledge, but also all other factors required and responsible for the same, namely:
- Retention power
- Health, both physical and psychological, because it is only through one’s physical body that anything can be accomplished
- Ability to speak sweet words; in other words, the ability for effective communication, be it posting questions or providing answers
- Effective listening ability to hear with complete involvement, so that there are no doubts or questions
2. Dhana (wealth and all-round prosperity)
- Those who are into business or are running anything from a small/medium enterprise to large organizations can pray specifically for the expansion of their businesses.
- You can pray for the emergence of innovative thoughts and ideas within you, and that they are implemented successfully, leading to greater revenues.
- It is interesting to note the order of placement of this prayer. The mantra for seeking wealth requests the Divine to bless one with intelligence prior to seeking blessings for wealth. With intelligence in place, we do not become proud or egoistic; instead we realize that all the wealth is given to us to help the deserving, not for our own selfish comforts. Such thoughts of sharing can happen only if there is higher intelligence within us.
3. Siksha (capability to spread the knowledge gained)
- Knowledge is eternal and boundless. The duty of the Guru is to spread the knowledge they have acquired far and wide to as many people as possible.
- While the mantras are chanted, the Guru invokes the Cosmic energies for him to be blessed with a steady inflow of students to him, while the students pray for the wellbeing of their Gurus and teachers and express their profound gratitude to them.
4. Saadhya (elevation of consciousness and ultimate realization)
- This is the prayer of UNION of oneself and the divine self; in other words, being ONE with the God particle.
- The prayer: Allow me to enter You and Thou shall enter me so that I see what you see and we see as ONE!
February 20th – The Last Day of the 5-Planet Parade

Astrologically, Jupiter and the Sun, along with Venus, are in pivotal positions from January 20th to February 20th as a part of the 5-Planet Parade in the skies, a spectacular celestial phenomenon.
Astrologically, the most prominent of the 5 planets is Jupiter, who has moved into the House of Sun. The Guru meeting his disciple, the King of the Cosmos, is a very significant happening, as this one episode will occur again only after 12 years.
This is the apt time to revere and follow the teachings of one’s own Guru, or preceptor. The Sanskrit word “Guru” has many meanings, like huge, boundless, one who annihilates, etc. In ancient India, a person who had great wisdom and knowledge and was also keen on enlightening those who sought the knowledge from him was called “Guru.”
Over a period of time, this term has gained usage so much so that it has become a part of the global vocabulary. The English equivalent of Guru is “preceptor,” which means “one who makes (the student) perceive.” Whether spiritual or not, all Gurus, including the modern day teachers, are undisputedly worthy of veneration.
This is undoubtedly the best time to pay one’s gratitude and homage to one’s teachers and spiritual Guru(s). The best way to do so is through the fire ritual called Avahanti Homa.
