Every year in the Tamil month of Margazhi (Mid Dec. – Mid Jan.), the power of Shiva descends to earth in the form of Nataraja, the Supreme Lord of Dance, whose Ultimate Transformative Energy brings him closest to people on the auspicious Ardra star day (Star of Cleansing, Renewal & Transformation). The powerful vibrations and positive energy radiating from his Cosmic Dance, the Ananda Tandava (Dance of Bliss) on this day, are believed to be spiritually cleansing and uplifting.

Arudra Darshan is an extremely auspicious day in which Shiva, as Nataraja, reflects his role as a Destroyer, Preserver, and Regenerator of the Universe through his cosmic dance. - Nataraja is the manifestation of Shiva, and through his Cosmic Dance, the Ananda Tandava, he symbolizes that time has no beginning or end
- The fiery ring surrounding Nataraja, the Prahabha Mandala (Ring of Flame), represents the Universe with all its illusions, suffering, and pain. The outer edge is fire, and the inner edge is the waters of the oceans
- The Prabha Mandala represents the never-ending cycle of time and impermanence of all things
- In Nataraja’s left hand, he holds a flame, representing the destruction and dissolution of the Universe and the removal of illusions from humans’ minds.
