Vaigasi Visagam marks the birthday of Lord Murugan, a very auspicious powertime celebrated in the Visagam Nakshatram in the Tamil month of Vaigasi. Invoking Lord Murugan’s cosmic energy during his powertime can help remove bad karma, dispel hurdles, and financial debt, improve health, and harmonise relationships. Scriptural Narration of Lord Murugan’s Birth
According to the Shiva Purana and Skanda Purana, Lord Murugan, the Supreme and Ever Merciful God of Courage, Wisdom and Wealth, emerged from the Divine sparks that emerged from Lord Shiva’s Third Eye. He was born to eliminate the Asura Surapadman, who was destroying the world. The Divine rays were carried by Mother Ganga to Saravana Poigai, where lotus flowers sprang from the mud and the rays turned into six babies lying on the lotus flowers. The six Krittikas from the Pleiadian constellation cared for the babies that merged into one as Goddess Parvati embraced them. The baby had six heads and twelve hands and came to be known as Shanmuga.
