6 Day Power Time to Invoke Muruga
Skanda Sasti festival is the 6-day power time (Nov. 4th to 9th) to access Muruga’s blessings to defeat the negative energies such as debts, diseases, legal issues, enemies, and bad karma. You can also use this 6-day period to connect with Muruga’s supreme wisdom and boost intelligence to attain success in your efforts.
AstroVed will be conducting grand rituals to powerfully invoke Muruga during this 6-day powertime with daily invocation of Muruga’s divine weapon Vel, seven temple Archanas, two grand Homas on the first and final days of Sasti, and Divine marriage ceremony of Muruga invoking his ultimate blessings.
What Is Skanda Sasti?
According to Puranas, Surapadman was a demon, who obtained many powerful boons and started oppressing even the Gods. Shiva and Parvati asked their son Muruga to lead an army of celestial beings and put an end to the cruelty of the demon Surapadman and his army. The fierce battle went on for six days and ended on the 6th day, when Muruga defeated Surapadman and his evil forces, relieving the Gods and the people from his oppression. This day is observed as Skanda Sasti.
How To Celebrate Skanda Sasti?
Devotees remember the heroic victory of Muruga, sing his glory for the first 5 days by reciting texts and hymns like Skanda Purana and Skanda Sashti Kavacham. On the 6th Skanda Sasti day, people observe Vrat or fasting and offer special worship to commemorate his triumph against the demonic forces. Some observe fasting on all the 6 days of Sasti, from morning to evening and consume only liquid diets and fruits, while come fast on the sixth day alone. Refraining from negative thoughts and purifying the mind only with spiritual thinking during the fasting is considered more important than abstaining from food. The fasting is completed on the sixth Surasamharam day by offering fruits and sweets to Muruga. People also visit Muruga temples for witnessing special Sasti Poojas.

First Day: Subramanya Ashtottara Shatanama Chanting & Kumara Stavam Stotram Chanting Followed by 6-Faced Muruga Homa with 6 Kalashams
On the first day of Skanda Sasti festival, our priests will be invoking Shanmuga in a grand Homa with six Kalashams of water from sacred rivers. Before performing this grand Homa, two powerful hymns in praise of Muruga – Subramanya Ashtottaram and Kumarasthavam will be chanted by our priests.
Subramanya Ashtottara Shatanama Chanting
Subramanya Ashtottaram glorifies the Divine attributes and power of Muruga as the beloved son of Shiva and Parvati, who is a strong warrior, invincible defeater of evil and powerful protector of his devotees.
Kumara Stavam Stotram Chanting
Kumarasthavam is a sacred hymn in Muruga’s praise composed by Saint Pamban Kumara Gurudasa Swamigal. This powerful hymn invokes Muruga’s grace and the blessings of his powerful weapon Vel, divine vehicle peacock, and his consorts Devayani and Valli.
According to sacred texts, chanting these two powerful hymns can:

Shanmuga Homa to Resolve Debts & Opposition and Awaken Supernormal Intelligence
Shanmuga is the incarnation of pure consciousness and divine knowledge and has six heads which represent Jnana (wisdom), Vairagya (detachment), Shree (wealth), Bala (strength), Keerti (fame), and Aishwarya (auspiciousness). He is the embodiment of these six qualities and bestows the same to his devotees. Worshiping Muruga as Shanmuga in a grand Homa can invoke his blessings for:

Trishati Archana to Muruga
Muruga Trishati is a sacred hymn comprising 300 names of Muruga. According to traditional belief, this hymn can remove negative forces such as enemies, evil eye, neutralize evildoers, help improve business and relationships, solve health problems, and witness growth in career/profession.
6-Priest Shatrusamhara Homa
On the final day of Skanda Sasti festival, when Muruga destroyed the demon Surapadman, we will be performing Shatrusamhara Homa to overpower internal & external negativity. This powerful Homa invokes Muruga as Subramanya, the vanquisher of evil forces and enemies, by offering six different flowers, fruits & Nivedhyam.
According to Kaumaram belief, performing this Homa can help to:
- solve problems in profession with courage

Pooja to Vel, Muruga’s divine weapon, will be performed on all six days of Skanda Sasti festival. Dr. Pillai says Muruga’s Vel has a deeper meaning than just a weapon. The Vel is hailed as both an internal and external weapon. As per scriptures, Muruga’s Vel is his mighty weapon given to him by his mother, Parvati. Archana to Muruga at Arupadai Veedu (One Temple Per Day)
According to legend, Muruga performed divine acts in 6 main abodes in Tamil Nadu, which are considered his ‘Battle Stations.’ As per temple tradition, performing special Archana to Muruga at his six battle stations can bestow the following blessings:
