Dasa Mahavidya: 10 Powerful Forms of Supreme Mother Goddess Lalita
Dasa Mahavidya are the ten Divine aspects of Supreme Mother Goddess Lalita and are her powerful manifestations. According to sacred texts including Sree Lalitopakhyanam, Srimad Devi Bhagavatam, Brahmanda Purana, and Durga Saptashati, they represent distinct aspects of feminine divinity to guide us towards spiritual liberation.
In Sanskrit, ‘Dasa’ means ten and ‘Vidya’ means knowledge. The Goddess emerged in these ten forms to make her consort Lord Shiva, aware of the power of the Divine feminine energy. The Dasa Mahavidya are the ten avatars of Shakti, signifying all aspects of creation, sustenance, and destruction of the Universe. Each month is dedicated to one specific Mahavidya who will be revered with sacred services that include a Grand Dasa Mahavidya Homam, Parayanam, Yantra Pooja, and Dasa Mahavidya Temple Archana that can help invoke the distinct powers of each Goddess to bestow blessings on you.
