What Is Arudra Darisanam?
Arudra Darisanam is an auspicious day for Lord Shiva and is dedicated to his dancing form, Nataraja. The cosmic dance of Lord Shiva represents Pancha Kriya or the five fundamental activities – creation, protection, destruction, embodiment, and liberation. It represents the continual cycle of creation and destruction. This divine dance takes place in every particle in the cosmos and is the source of all energy. Arudra Darisanam celebrates this ecstatic dance of Shiva and is celebrated with great fervour at the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple and many other Shiva temples.
Significance Of Arudra Darisanam
According to Puranas, the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple in Tamil Nadu is the holiest spot where Lord Shiva performed his Ananda Thandavam. He performed his cosmic dance for his ardent devotees Adiseshan and Vyagrapradar. Both of them wanted to witness this ecstatic dance of Lord Shiva, and as an answer to their prayers, Shiva performed Ananda Thandavam at Chidambaram temple. This day is celebrated as Arudra Dharisanam, when the Nakshatra ‘Arudra’ or Thiruvadhirai coincides with the Purnima (Full Moon) day in the Tamil month, Margazhi (Dec-Jan).
