Andal, one of the twelve Alwars (Vishnu Saints), an incarnation of Bhoomi Devi (Mother Earth) and an avatar of Wealth Goddess Lakshmi, manifested on Pooram star day. According to legend, Bhoomi Devi, the second consort of Vishnu, propitiated Vishnu to be born as a human to worship and attain Him. As a result, she reincarnated as Andal (Kodhai), the daughter of the legendary Alwar Saint Periyalwar, on Aadi Pooram day.
