Maha Magha 2016: February 22 (IST)

Seek Blessings of Your Ancestors
A Once-in-12-Years Event

The Full Moon aligning with the Magha star in the month of Masi has great potential for your material and spiritual growth. In 2016, it falls on February 22 (IST) and is an important day for you to:

  • Empower yourself with the energy of Magha – a star of royalty consciousness, power, and leadership.
  • Receive blessings from enlightened souls and your ancestors. The presiding deities of the Magha star are the Pitris, or Ancestors.
  • Support your growth and progress with Jupiter, the planet of wisdom, spirituality, and fortune. This year it is Maha Magha due to the presence of Jupiter with the Full Moon.
  • Remedy afflictions due to Rahu, Ketu and Kala Sarpa Doshas rituals.

Masi Magha is a perfect occasion to offer prayers and remove any negative, troubling energy which may be due to a lack of positive blessings from ancestors.

Astrological Significance of Maha Magha 2016

This Masi Magha is called Maha Magha, as it happens only once every 12 years when Jupiter comes into the sign Leo. The Full Moon in the star of Magha, along with Jupiter in the sign Leo, is very powerful. Jupiter adds more auspiciousness to this day, and the planet Rahu will be along with the Moon and Jupiter. This day can even reduce the afflictions caused by Rahu, Ketu and Kala Sarpadoshas.

Worshiping the Archetypes Shiva and Muruga on this day will help bring royal consciousness and the confidence to move forward in life. We are performing special rituals at Kumbakonam that will help you clear the planetary afflictions and wash out any negative karma affecting you.

Moreover, the presiding deities for the star Magha are the Ancestors, or Pitris. Performing Tarpanam on this day will appease the ancestors too. Remedies performed on this day will help clear your sins and curses, and will bring you blessings to lead a healthy, peaceful, and joyful life.

Tarpanam to Ancestors at Kerala

Part of clearing the path is having the energy of your Ancestors in your favor. Masi Magha is the powerful time to honor your Ancestors and seek their blessings. The Magha star is ruled by the Pitris, or Ancestors.

Tarpanam to Ancestors at Kerala

Just as there is a biological lineage of the transference of DNA along the family line, there is also your spiritual lineage, or Spirit DNA. Your departed ancestors can help solve your problems, as well as create them. They can help solve money, relationship, health and other problems quite easily if one knows how to communicate and connect with them.

Tarpanam is a ritual that includes “feeding” your ancestors with rice and sesame seeds that energetically reach them. The purpose of this is to release your ancestors to a higher plane. When they are fed and at peace, they are free to go into the light and send you their blessings.

Please Note: We will not be shipping any Prasad after the Tarpanam, as it is generally considered inauspicious to possess the Prasad.

Kumbakonam Sacred Tank

Kumbakonam Sacred Tank

After the deluge and just before the advent of Kaliyuga, Lord Brahma was in a state of confusion as to the location from which he should commence his creation again. Lord Shiva advised Brahma to collect sand from as many holy places as possible, then mix them and make a pot. Lord Shiva also told him to fill the pot with nectar and float it.

Lord Shiva, in the garb of a hunter, shot an arrow at the pot and broke it, making it contents spill and resulting in the revival of life. Kumbham means “the pot” and Konam means “crooked” – the pot that broke when Shiva’s arrow hit it. The place where the nectar fell is the Mahamaham tank.

There is a prevailing practice of taking a holy bath in the wells of the Kumbakonam Temple Tank on Masi Magha to eliminate the heaviest karmic baggage. It presents a unique opportunity to receive karmic intervention from the heavenly beings and ancestors, and helps you reclaim ownership of your destiny.

People usually wash their sins in holy waters like Ganges, Yamuna, Saraswati, Sarayu, Godavari, Mahanadi, Narmada , Cauvery and Payoshni. However, when these rivers themselves wanted to get rid of their sins, they approached Archetype Brahma who advised them to come together and take bath in Maha Magam tank in Kumbakonam, where the holy waters from 20 sources merge once in 12 years during the full Moon in the solar month when Sun is in Aquarius, which opposes the Jupiter in Leo.

The water from 20 holy rivers merges in this holy tank at Kumbakonam, in this special year. Your birth chart will be washed in this holy tank to remove your sins done in this birth and your previous births.

Did You Know?

Water is the Medium used by the Universe to Communicate with Us

1) Our cells are composed of 75% to 90% water. These cells have the ability to store and share information, in particular photons called bio-photons. They are the weak electromagnetic waves in the visible range of the light spectrum that our cells emit to control vital processes.

DNA lies in the center of every living cell and is surrounded by water. It contains instructions on how the cell should behave and replicate in the form of light or energy via the surrounding water.

The energy from our DNA gradually expands out from the center of the cell, spreading throughout the whole body via the water within us. It extends beyond our physical bodies to the Auric or Biophysical field due to the water molecules in the air around us. This is how, with the help of water, we and our energy field interact and communicate with everything around us.

The water in the Kumbakonam Tank is said to be a mixture of water from the Sacred Ganges, Yamuna, Saraswati, Sarayu, Godavari, Mahanadi, Narmada and Kaveri. The water has been held as sacred and holy for thousands and thousands of years through its very means of creation, and by prayers and rituals since its beginnings. No matter its physical purity (due to pollution, etc.), metaphysically or spiritually it is pure and highly divinely charged.

2) Since the ancient Vedic scientists, health-conscious people in India have been storing and drinking water from a copper vessel or cup. For thousands of years, Ayurveda has been recommending this practice, as there are many benefits from the copper. It is said to have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, and to kill micro-organisms. The water becomes a valuable electrolyte (to maintain balance in your electrical body), and gets energized, making it more bio-available, and tastier too.
