Mythology

Bali Chakravarthi, the demon king ruled both Earth and Heaven. After performing Visvajeet yagya to get back what he lost and after completion of yagya gained many things including celestial armour, conch, etc. Equipped with his new possessions King Bali won battle over Indra. Devas appealed to Lord Vishnu to free them from Bali’s rule. Mahavishnu was born to Aditi, Indra’s mother, and Kashyapa, his father incarnated as Vamana( dwarf) and went to the place where Bali was performing yagnas. Vamana approached the palace and praised the king’s generosity towards Brahmins and the poor and asked him for land space covered by the three steps of his feet. The audience present was taken aback to hear such a request and Bali, the demon king agreed to give alms as wished. Sukracharya, the Guru of Daityas warned the king that the small boy standing before him and begging for alms is none other than Mahavishnu, and accepting his desire is foolish. But Bali never heeded the words of his Guru and started pouring water from the vessel as that is the ritual to give alms or Dhaana. In a desperate attempt to stop this act of Mahabali, Sukracharya turned himself into a bee and blocked the spout of the vessel. But Vamana pricked one of the eyes of Sukraharya by pricking the vessel spout. This incident blinded the eye of Sukracharya.
