Rahu Pooja

According to Hindu tradition, Rahu is a celestial body and the king of meteors. Rahu is also known as the north lunar node and is a shadow planet that causes eclipses. Rahu is represented as a severed head transformed into a human head and serpent body. It is said to have no shape but is considered a planet due to its importance in astrology.

Significance of Rahu

According to astrology, Rahu can have negative effects on a person if it is in the wrong position in their horoscope. In some places, Rahu is characterized as a God of fear, materialism, confusion, obsession, and dissatisfaction. In some other places, he is characterized as being violent, aggressive, merciless, mischievous, secretive, and mysterious. Some others say that Rahu is responsible for the following symptoms:

Laziness, Delays, Hurdles at work, Sudden losses, Relocation to places away from home, Health issues, confused mind, etc.

According to astrology, Rahu can bring both positive and negative results. The Positive Results of Rahu are Financial benefits, discovery, invention, strategy, and foreign travel. Rahu will be in a strong position for expert warriors and for people who receive the nation’s highest bravery award. And Rahu is a diplomatic planet that involves hard work.

Rahu can bring good results if it is placed in a friendly sign or is conjunct with benefic planets like Guru or Jupiter. If it is placed in 2nd house, it can bring financial gain and success in business or finance-related fields. Rahu is known to reflect its shadow for 18 months in a zodiac. If Rahu is placed in an auspicious position in one’s horoscope, then the person attains sharp intellect. The native receives honor and fame in society. It has friendly ties with planets like Venus, Mercury, and Saturn. The Moon and the Sun are the enemy planets and it is more averse towards Sun.

The time of a day considered to be under the influence of Rahu is known as Rahu Kaal considered to be inauspicious. Rahu is usually paired with Ketu, another shadow planet. Rahu is also associated with science and occultism.

Puranic Significance

Rahu is mentioned in the Puranas as Asura Svarbanu. The Devas and Asuras churned the ocean of milk to extract amrita from it, the elixir of immortality. Many things came out of the ocean and after the Halahala poison, which was consumed by Lord Shiva to save the universe, the Amrit or nectar came out and the asuras without giving a portion to Devas took away the pot and Vishnu took Mohini's avatar, and getting back the amrit or nectar pot distributed to devas. Svar Bhanu transformed himself as Chandra, the celestial one, sat in the rows of devas, and drank amrita. Surya and Chandra noticed him and they informed Mohini; however, by that time, Svarbhanu had already become immortal. Vishnu, as Mohini, cut off Svarbhanu's head with his discus, the Sudarsana Chakra. Svarbhanu, henceforth referred to as Rahu and Ketu, could not die, but his head was separated from his body; his head came to be known as Rahu, while his body came to be known as Ketu. Following this event, Rahu and Ketu gained the status of planets and could influence the lives of humans on Earth. Rahu and Ketu became bitter enemies with Surya (Sun) and Chandra (Moon) for exposing his deception and leading to his decapitation. After this incident, Since Rahu is the head without the body, the Sun and Moon exit from his throat when he tries to swallow them. This recurring cycle creates the grahana, an eclipse of the Sun and the Moon, which represents the temporary revenge of Rahu.
