Mars is a warrior planet. According to Vedic Astrology, Mars is a fierce planet, regarded as the commander among the Navagraha. Known by many names such as Mangal, Chevvai, Kuja, Angaraha, and Bowma, it is a highly energetic celestial body that can symbolize a person's emotional aspects. This fiery planet denotes traits like courage, aggression, and strength, as well as aspects like enemies, weapons, engineering, armed forces, police, administrators, and metals. Mars, when well-placed at the birth of a person, as reflected in the birth chart, can impart strength, courage, confidence, and vitality to that individual.
Mars Pooja (Mars Puja) or Mangal Pooja (Mangal Puja) is the ceremonial worship performed in honor of this mighty planetary lord.
Mythology traces the origin of Mars to Lord Shiva. When Shiva entered into a long trance after being separated from Goddess Parvati, a drop of sweat rolled out of his third eye. When it fell on the ground, it took the form of a child, who was then nurtured and brought up by the Earth Goddess. He became Mars, who grew up to become the son of Mother Earth.
It is also said that while Mars was deeply involved in meditation, a spiritual flame appeared in his body and elevated him to the exalted status of a planet or planetary lord.
As he emerged from the sweat that emanated from Shiva's fiery third eye, Mars turned into a fiery planet, and being the son of Earth, he became Bhoomi Karaka, the significator of Earth.
Mars is a powerful planet that denotes high determination and the spirit to take on challenges and fight against all odds and obstacles. Mars can also fire your emotions, trigger passions, drive endeavors toward success, and help you achieve goals. Mars, being the Bhumi Karaka, the causative planet for Earth and earthly things, remains the planet responsible for a person enjoying properties or assets. While Mars rules the zodiac signs Aries and Scorpio, and the weekday Tuesday, Shiva's Divine son Muruga remains Mars' overlord.
However, Vedic Astrology holds Mars to be a malefic planet. An unfavorable Mars can impact a person adversely, causing anger and aggression issues, accidents and injuries, impulsive behavior, conflicts and challenges at work, financial instability, lack of focus, and health concerns. An adverse Mars can also contribute to severe problems in relationships, especially in marital bonds; Mangal Dosha, the Mars affliction can delay marriages or cause strains between spouses.
However, Mars Pooja (Mars Puja) or Mangal Pooja (Mangal Puja) can appease the aggressive planet, help mitigate its adverse effects and enhance its positive impact.
This worship is especially recommended for those who have a not-so-well-placed or debilitated Mars in their birth chart, are suffering from Manglik Dosha, the Mars affliction, or those under the major or minor period of the malefic Mars.
Experienced priests with much expertise in conducting such ritualistic worship perform Mars Pooja (Mars Puja) or Mangal Pooja (Mangal Puja), following the procedures prescribed in the scriptures, chanting Mantras in praise of the red planet Mars, and seeking his grace for reducing its adverse effects and bestowing favorable blessings.
According to Sacred texts, Mars Pooja (Mars Puja) or Mangal Pooja (Mangal Puja) can reduce the malefic effects and strengthen the positive blessings of Mars. It can bestow in you, courage, confidence, determination, a sense of independence, a passion for progressing in life, robust energy to fulfill your dreams, a promising career, and a drive to focus on achieving your goals. The Pooja can also help enjoy cordial and peaceful relationships, inspire the accumulation of properties and assets, and grant wealth, prosperity, good fortune, and wisdom.
