Jupiter

Jupiter, also known as Brihaspati, is considered the most important planet in Vedic Astrology. Jupiter is considered to be a benefic planet, and is considered to provide a positive influence, and brings good luck and prosperity. Jupiter represents knowledge and wisdom. It is associated with learning, education and knowledge. This planet is one of the most favourable and bright planets among all the planets in Navgrahas.

The ardent devotee of Lord Shiva is Lord Brihaspati who is the son of a priest of Devas, the Maharishi Angirasa. Lord Brihaspati prayed to Lord Shiva very devoutly at Prabhas Tirth. Pleased by the devotion of Brihaspati, Lord Shankar included him in the Devas family and blessed him with the position of ‘Priest of Devas’.

If observing Brahaspati Vrat avoid consumption of banana and salt on the day of fast. Legend of Jupiter or Brithaspati Pooja

In ancient India, there was a King, who was blessed with seven sons and his queens. All the other queens except the younger one used to send Brahmins who came begging for alms empty-handed. Thus, God Jupiter was displeased with them. This adversely affected the prosperity and wealth of the kingdom. The youngest queen started giving alms and asked the Brahmins for remedies. The Brahmins advised the queen to observe fast on Thursdays, and feed Brahmins. Brihaspati pooja came into practice in Hindu culture at that time.
