The ancient system of Vedic Astrology recognizes 27 Nakshatras, the star constellations or, simply, the stars. The Nakshatra or star that the Moon transits or is placed in, at the time of an individual's birth is known as the person's Janma Nakshatra or Birth Star. This set of 27 stars keeps appearing in a cycle, where every star will repeat approximately once a month and 12 times a Year. This phenomenon applies to the birth star, too, which also keeps coming monthly once and yearly 12 times. The birth star of a person falling in the month of his birth in any Year becomes his or her Annual Star Birthday and is celebrated as such.
Birth Star Pooja, Nakshatra Pooja, or Birthday Pooja, is the worship performed on the Day of the birth star of an individual.
The special worship that people perform on the Day of their Janma Nakshatra or birth star is the Nakshatra Pooja or Birth Star Pooja, which is also at times called the Birthday Pooja. These worships are primarily done to the Janma Nakshatra, the birth star concerned, the Nakshatra Devathas, the presiding deities, or the planetary lords ruling over the stars.
These worships are also done on behalf of the individuals and will include related rituals.
As the birth star of a person usually comes once a month, people can perform the Birth Star Pooja on any or every monthly birth star Day.
The Moon is the closest celestial body to Mother Earth and holds perhaps the most decisive influence on earthly beings. He also rules over our minds and emotions and is known as Mano Karaka. Hence, the Moon remains the single most influential factor defining the characteristics and mentality of a person. The birth star is the one in which the Moon travels when a person is born, so it remains crucial to impact our thoughts, emotions, actions, behavior, and even our destiny!
Hence, Janma Nakshatra, the star of birth of a person, occupies an extraordinary place in his or her life. The Sanskrit word 'Nakshatra' stands for 'something eternal' or 'the thing that will never get degenerated.' That is why the holy texts claim that the birth star encompasses in it, our karmic results and the fruits of our labor. They are, hence, said to wield considerable influence over the nature of an individual and his or her characteristic traits and behavioral patterns.
Thus, the Day of the Birth Star remains an occasion of power and Divine blessings. Hence, it is a strong belief that the Birth Star Pooja, Nakshatra Pooja, or Birthday Pooja, the worship done on such a momentous occasion in anyone's life, can invoke these blessings for substantial and favorable results in both material and spiritual domains, have a positive and lasting impact on people and grant them significant benefits.
While people are required to perform the Birth Star Pooja or the Pooja needs to be done for them on the Day their birth star is ruling, the worship can become all the more efficacious if it is performed during the auspicious times in that Day. The early morning time of Brahma Muhurtha is universally held as auspicious; in addition, there are also specific durations of time known as Horas, regarded as Sacred for any particular weekday.
Hence, performing the Birth Star Pooja, Nakshatra Pooja, or Birthday Pooja on the Janma Nakshatra Day during the auspicious time through expert priests, learned Pundits or spiritual guides can be highly productive, yielding many blessings.
People can chant the following Birth Star Pooja Mantra during the worship:
Jum Sah Sah Jum Jum Om Amrit-Mritunjayaaya Namah
This Pooja is meant to appease the Nakshatra deity, which can help mitigate the adverse effects of negative Karma, accumulate good Karma, and promote the virtuous and beneficial conditioning of the mind.
Performing the worship regularly with faith can help reduce the negative influences of the star and grant better physical health and sharper mental power, success in endeavors, harmony in marital lives, prosperity, fortune, fulfillment of dreams, and a long and purposeful life.
Let us also propitiate to our Janma Nakshatra for our all-around well-being.
