June is considered to be the sixth month of the year as per the Gregorian calendar. The month has been named after the Roman Goddess Juno, the Goddess of marriage, the spouse of the supreme deity, Jupiter.

Goddess Juno is also equivalent to the Greek Goddess, Hera. Another name this month was derived from is the Latin word ‘Juniores,’ which means juniors or younger ones.

The month of June has the Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere, the day with the longest daylight hours. A unique feature of this month is that it does not start on the same day of the week, unlike other months. It shares this unique feature only with May. It is believed many celebrations, especially marriages, take place in the month of June.
