Summer Solstice: A Major Celestial Event
June 21st IST
The Summer Solstice is taking place next Saturday on June 21st. It is a major celestial event and it results in the longest day and the shortest

than on New Year's day, because the Summer Solstice Sun will give your resolutions inner commitment and staying power.
Most of the world has lost the significance of the Sun's movement, because science and technology has taken us far away from nature, with a loss
of sensitivity to the natural happenings around us. The ancient people lived in harmony with nature and innately knew the power of the Sun. That is
why the Sun worship was widely practiced throughout the whole world, everywhere, regardless how sophisticated or primitive the civilization.

What is Summer Solstice?
The word solstice comes from the Latin word Sol (Sun) and stare or sistere (to stand or stop). A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs
twice a year, when the Sun reaches the highest point in the sky as seen from the South and North Pole. For an observer on the North Pole, it happens
once a year during June and that day is called the Summer Solstice. The day heralds the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere.
Celebration of Summer Solstice
Celebration of Summer Solstice dates back to ancient pre-Christian traditions. Many traditions in the West commemorate the day as a tribute to the
midsummer rituals, participating in fire dances, bonfires, feasts etc. The Christians also recognized the significance of this time, the feast of St.
John, the Baptist, falls towards the end of June and the festival of Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light is also at this time.
As per the Siddhas, Summer Solstice is a great time for manifesting whatever you need in your material life. Be it money, health, partner or great
looks, this is the right time to bring those thoughts into you. The yogis also figured out that the movement of the Sun affects our brain in a
significant way, just as it affects the weather and the environment. The Sun is associated with the left brain and the left brain can give you intense
spiritual experiences because it figures out the language, which is the tool through which you understand things. This is a day to remember the
Gayathri Mantra, the most important chant of the yogis. Gayathri is a prayer to the Sun.
Gayathri Mantra for the Sun
Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bargo Devasya Dhimahi
Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayat
Go on chanting and chanting and chanting. You will go beyond the meaning of prayer, which is asking the sun to enlighten your consciousness. The syllables are important; the sounds are important, more important than the meaning. Then you will be led to a higher state of consciousness, brilliant as the sun with a lot of energy, light and happiness. Let us welcome the summer solstice, so that you will have a renewed life of joy, happiness and peace for the entire world.
