Thai Poosam ('Day of Light')

The Tamil Month of 'Thai", is very famous for 'Thai Poosam' or 'Day of Light'. This event/festival occurs on the full moon day of the "Poosam" Nakshatra Day. Thai Poosam is the most powerful day to pray to the Vel and Muruga for destruction of all enemies, diseases and debts. The deity associated with Pushya is also Brihaspati, the 'Guru' or teacher and so it has a property of enlightening spiritual growth. This is a time for ascension from a material to pure spiritual domain. It is one of the best opportunities to enhance our thought patterns so that we are holistically much better than before.

What is so significant about "Thai Poosam"?

  • It is the day when Lord Muruga was given the powerful 'Lance' or 'Vel,' (Divine Spear Weapon) by Mother Goddess Parvathi to assist in His battle with the demon Surapadma. The vel has a lot of significance in the transition from the physical into a life beyond, or in other words attaining a 'light body'.

Swami Ramalingam's Ascension on Thai Poosam Day

Swami Ramalingam (Saint Vallalar) lived in Vadalur in southern part of India. He preached some timeless truths and turned his body into light on this auspicious day at Vadalur in Tamil Nadu. Astroved has arranged for feeding on this auspicious day. This act will add lot of spiritual merit to you and help your material pursuits also, as you could lighten yourselves and the Universe.

"The easiest way to access God's grace is to feed a famished human being starving for food".

It was on a Thai Poosam in 1874 that Swami Ramalingam made his final merger with Light. Ramalingam was a tremendous Saint who was able to transform his physical body into a body made of Light. He lived and maintained his body of light for 1-1/2 years for all to witness. On the Pushya star and Full Moon day, he made his final merger with the light complete and physically disappeared from the earth plane. No traces of his body were ever found.
