Arudra Darshan: Jan 8th IST
Two Divine Ways to Celebrate the Cosmic Dance
of Lord Shiva
For Your Information
Margazhi month is called Twilight in Heaven and it is the time to take a cue from the Sun while it is in Sagittarius, the period known as the time the Gods rest and rejuvenate. Arudra Darshan is the longest night of the year. After this, the days get longer and the nights get shorter.
Did You Know?
“God Particle” (from Mail Online Science and Tech):
The existence of the Higgs boson was put forward in the 1960s to explain why the tiny particles that make up atoms have mass.
Theory has it that as the universe cooled after the Big Bang, an invisible force known as the Higgs field formed.
This field permeates the cosmos and is made up of countless numbers of tiny particles – or Higgs bosons.
As other particles pass through it, they pick up mass.
Any benefits in the wider world from the discovery of the Higgs boson will be long term, but they could be felt in fields as diverse as medicine, computing and manufacturing.
Experts compare the search for the Higgs boson to the discovery of the electron.
The idea of the electron – a subatomic particle – was first floated in 1838, but its presence was not confirmed for another 60 years.
A century on, the electron’s existence underpins modern science. Our understanding of it is critical to the development of technology from television and CDs to radiotherapy for cancer patients.

The Arudra star in the Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec 15 – Jan 15) is Lord Shiva’s birthday. It is believed to be the day when Lord Shiva’s energy is very close to the earth; hence it has been given the importance of being His birthday. He is worshipped in the cosmic dance form, making his power and heightened consciousness accessible to those who seek it.
He Who Dances A Still Dance
Arudra is a very powerful star. Most people born on the Arudra star day will hold significant places in the society. In this dancing form, Lord Shiva lifts His left leg and has His right foot stepping on the demon of ego, famously known as "the God who dances a still dance".
Chidambaram is a temple in South India that holds the power of the dancing Shiva (Shiva in this form is called Lord Nataraja). It is here at this temple that Lord Shiva appeared to those who were present in his dance. We have organized a powerful ritual at the vortex of Chidambaram on Shiva’s Birthday. It’s an ideal time to invest in the enlightenment of your mind and leave behind the human experience of confusion, disappointment and doubt.
Arudra Darshan – the Festival
This is a striking festival where meticulously performed Vedic rituals are offered to Lord Nataraja. These rituals are held in the pre-dawn hours, when the moon is still shining brightly. Various ceremonies are held amid the holy chants in Sanskrit and Tamil.
Chidambaram Temple
The Chidambaram Nataraj temple is a specimen of the assimilation of several architectural styles. This temple vortex is of great religious, historic and cultural significance. The temple was designed by "Manikkavachakar" with full praise of Shiva and is over two millennium old.
The Cosmic Dance & Its Relevance
This cosmic dance of Lord Shiva takes place in every particle and is the source of all energy. In essence, His cosmic dance represents the continuous cycle of creation and destruction. Arudra Darshan celebrates this ecstatic dance of Lord Shiva.
This Cosmic Dance of Shiva is said to symbolize the five divine acts ("Pancha Krityas"): Creation, Protection, Destruction, Embodiment and Release.
Celebrate this blissful, cosmic dance of Shiva as it takes place in every particle of your being and every particle in the entire universe. The dance is possible because of Shakti and is the source of all energy.
AstroSpeaks
"Modern physics has shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of all living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter...For the modern physicists, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter...Hundreds of years ago, Indian artists created visual images of dancing Shivas in a beautiful series of bronzes. In our time, physicists have used the most advanced technology to portray the patterns of the cosmic dance. The metaphor of the cosmic dance thus unifies ancient mythology, religious art and modern physics."
