Jupiter Transit
Jupiter rules our potential for growth.
Jupiter rules our potential for growth and expansion on many levels: physical, intellectual, spiritual and cultural, along with the accumulation of material assets, power and status. He rules our optimism and aspirations, including our interests in faraway places, travel, foreigners, academic and artistic types, cultural endeavours such as publishing, higher education, structured personal development, healing, government and religion. Jupiter is a risk-taker, so also rules gambling and speculation, adventure and moving into unknown territory.
We look to Jupiter for Divine grace and the rewards available to us in life. The transit of Jupiter from one zodiac sign to another is a very significant event as the placement of Jupiter in the birth chart determines how ones Annual Horoscope and the scale of measure used to know how the coming year will be.
What does 'direct' and 'retrograde' mean?
It is called 'direct' when a planet's movement is forward around the constellations or houses. 'Retrograde' refers to the appearance of a planet, except for the Sun and the Moon, going backwards for a time. This occurs whenever the Earth passes up the other planet as they both orbit the Sun, similar to how a slower car appears to move backwards when you pass it at higher speed on the highway. After a time when the earth passes, the planet stops its appearance of reverse motion and resumes its normal, direct motion.
Jupiter in Retrograde
When Jupiter turns retrograde, the action of Jupiter is reversed so that the emphasis is upon inner awareness and inner growth. It is an excellent time to get in touch with personal integrity. When transiting Jupiter is afflicting natal planets, you will find yourself dealing with phoniness in both yourself and others. When Jupiter is retrograde, you should evaluate how you are not being honest with yourself because you are playing a role that is disloyal to your true self. When opportunities arise while Jupiter is retrograde, they are the result of seeds planted in the past from people met or connections made in the past.
How do I interpret the planetary retrograde cycles?
A retrograding planet is a sign from the universe to pay close attention to something. Instead of a planet passing quickly through your birth chart, it decides to linger awhile in one area so you "get the message" it has for you. The sooner you make the shifts, the less painful the process.
During the second, retrograding pass, this situation that the 'deeper you' has initiated begins to mature and unfold. If you need to let go of something in your life, events happen to cause it to break or to wrestle it away from you. If you need to wake up to some lesson, events repeatedly show you how painful it can be to walk through life half asleep.
